Only 900- 1,000 students in the entire United States are chose to sit for the 3-part national exam. No more than two students from any given school can compete in the national competition. The 20 top-scoring students are chosen to attend a study camp where they will try to win a spot on the U.S. team, for the International Chemistry Olympiad.
This year Geno Arthur and Samantha Pinsak scored high enough on the local area exam to be chosen for the National Exam . When Samantha declined the opportunity the first alternate from the Central California Coast region was selected, and that is Christal Greenlaw, also from Rio Mesa. All three students are Seniors in the IB Chemistry HLB program.
