This year, Carlos Rodriguez, senior, has been chosen as the new drum major. Drum major is not the first leadership position Rodriguez has held. Though his skills are mostly self taught and are always being honed to perfection, he was also captain of the swim team, vice president of the Rocketry Team, and section leader.
Rodriguez learned to motivate himself and others and is always striving to reach his highest potential and is encouraging the band to do the same.
“We’re off to a good start,” commented Rodriguez. He hopes to keep the momentum of the year going and keep improving. His goal is to set the band up to do even better next year.
“He’s doing a great job,” said Mr. John Stava, Cam High’s music teacher. He has been teaching Rodriguez for four years and was the one that chose him for the position. Most of the band agrees with Stava.
“I think he’s doing a great job,” stated Elise Dillon, senior, and Steven Medrano, sophomore.
“He has his moments of uniqueness,” Shelby Keefer, senior, shared. “And he really wants to show off the best side of the band.” It was also commented that his leadership skills are exemplary and that he has a lot of knowledge on marching, music, and musicianship; giving him the skills he needs to excel as drum major.
Stava also commented that he believes that this year “We will see band go places we might not have seen it go before with the help of our student leadership.”
