Oxnard scored a touchdown in every quarter, and it turns out all four trips to the end zone were needed, as the host Yellowjackets held off a Downey fourth-quarter rally to emerge with a 26-21 win on Friday night.
“I’d rather have an ugly win than a pretty loss any day,” Oxnard head coach Mark Beckham said. “We did enough to win the game.”
Three of the Yellowjackets touchdowns were scored by running back Grant Weiss. Weiss was the catalyst on offense for Oxnard with 227 yards on 11 carries.
Leading 26-7 after Weiss ran in a 3-yard score just five seconds into the fourth quarter, Oxnard had Downey on a fourth-and- 20 at the Vikings 35.
