Grant Weiss had just clinched the win for the Oxnard High football team and afterward all he could think of was teammate Adrian Padilla.
Padilla suffered a severe concussion in last Friday’s game against San Luis Obispo and underwent emergency surgery at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo.
Oxnard players and fans honored their injured teammate with stickers on the back of their helmets that read “A.P.” and included his number “25.” What meant the most to Oxnard players though was providing a 42-35 win over visiting Buena High in a game dedicated to Padilla.
“It means the world,” Weiss said. “We did it for A.P. We played hard. We had our best week of practice.”
